It is an animated gif created from the famous Eadward Muybridge photos. Muybridge is the guy who used photography to prove that a galloping horse has all four feet off the ground at the same time. After he made the horse photos, he continued on and did many more of people, a flying cockatoo, and others.
Read more about him on wikipedia. I just went there and realized he is a much more interesting than I realized. His history includes several name changes, a murder, and a stage coach accident. They also have animated gif’s of his work-and they are much cleaner than mine—but I have learned how to do them now. I can improve mine and I have some ideas to elaborate on them.

Thanks for the tip. You have collected some wonderful reinterpretations of Muybridge’s work! I particularly like the projections on buildings in his home town. I will have to visit some more and check out more of your links.
